Nepal is among the most disaster-prone countries in the world due to its fragile geology,
rugged topography, unplanned urbanization, and the escalating impacts of climate change.
The country frequently experiences earthquakes, floods, landslides, fires, droughts,
epidemics, and climate-induced extreme events.
These disasters result in loss of lives, damage to property and livelihoods, and long-term
disruption to socio-economic development. Despite progress in disaster risk reduction and
management, challenges remain in preparedness, coordination, rapid response, sustainable
recovery, and resilience-building at both community and institutional levels.
In this context, the Nepal Disaster Resilience Foundation (NDRF) has been
established as a non-profit, non-political organization committed to strengthening disaster
preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response, recovery, and long-term resilience across
Nepal through capacity building, knowledge sharing, advocacy, coordination, and community
empowerment.
As the Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Disaster Resilience Foundation (NDRF), I firmly believe that true resilience is built not in the aftermath of disasters,
but through sustained, proactive efforts long before they strike. Nepal’s unique vulnerability to earthquakes, floods, landslides, fires, storms, road traffic accidents,
and the growing risks of glacial lake outbursts demands a shift from reactive response to strategic preparedness.
At NDRF, we are committed to driving this transformation. Our work focuses on empowering communities with knowledge and skills,
strengthening local institutions, integrating science and technology into risk reduction, and fostering partnerships that amplify impact.
By prioritizing awareness, early warning systems, capacity building, and inclusive planning, we strive to ensure that every Nepali—regardless of location or circumstance—has the tools to protect themselves and their families.
I extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated board of directors and the team, volunteers, supporters, collaborators, and the group of eminent advisors who make this mission possible. Through collaboration with government agencies, development partners, civil society, and the private sector, NDRF is committed to build safe, informed, empowered, and resilient community. The future we seek is within reach. Now is the time to act. Join us—volunteer, partner, donate, or simply spread the word. Let us rise together and forge a resilient Nepal that inspires the world.
